The Fruit Truck SD, is a mobile fruit vendor serving the community of South Dakota and other states. Specializing in delivering premium, farm-fresh fruits directly to customers, this innovative business brings the farmers' market experience right to your town. With a focus on quality and convenience, The Fruit Truck SD offers a diverse selection of seasonal fruits sourced from farms, ensuring freshness. From juicy strawberries to other tropical delights, their website is your gateway to explore their selection of fruits. The Fruit Truck has become a beloved delivery service for my fresh fruit. When the truck comes to Brookings, it stops in the Running's parking lot and is there for about 45 minutes. It’s such as fast process to get your strawberries and only takes a few minutes.

I have been purchasing fruit from The Fruit Truck for a couple years now, and it’s never failed to delight me! Strawberries have been my favorite fruit to purchase, along with other fruits such as peaches. Strawberries are delivered starting March. 8 lbs of strawberries are $30/carton. So worth the money! Other types of fruit are delivered throughout the spring, summer, and fall, but I don’t quite remember which those are. You can find more info and all the details on The Fruit Truck through the links I’ve included below.

Storage

I feel like this is one question we’re always asking: “How do I keep my fruit fresh longer?” We're always searching for the perfect method and trying new things. I’ve always tried different methods to keep my fruit fresh until now. For strawberries, I have found that mason jars are the holy grail to keeping them fresh for longer. But DO NOT rinse your strawberries before storing them in mason jars. Seriously listen to me. Strawberries are freshest when they are dry and cold because added moisture will soften your strawberries and increase the growth for mold. Instead, only wash them when you plan to use/eat them. This is what I do with all of my fruits and vegetables I get from the store.

Strawberry Benefits

Strawberries are seriously amazing – not just because they taste like heaven, but also because they're super good for you! These juicy gems are loaded with stuff your body loves, like vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. Vitamin C is like a superhero for your immune system, keeping you healthy and glowing. And potassium? It's all about keeping your heart happy and your blood pressure in check. Plus, strawberries are packed with fiber, which keeps everything moving smoothly in your digestive system. Oh, and did I mention antioxidants? Yep, strawberries are full of 'em, fighting off inflammation and keeping those nasty chronic diseases away. Strawberries offer incredible benefits when it comes to inflammation and acne. I have dealt with this and I know you’re not the only one, so listen to me when I say FRUITS ARE YOUR BODIES BEST FRIEND. Prioritizing my health is something I started taking seriously my junior year of high school. It’s when I realized that good foods affect your health and performance A LOT; as an athlete I started taking this all seriously because it impacted my body SO MUCH in SO MANY WAYS. I could write a whole book about every fruit and vegetable and its benefits on the body, but I’m only talking about strawberries since it's my favorite fruit.

So first off, strawberries are packed with antioxidants like vitamin C, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, which work together to fight inflammation throughout the body, including in the skin. By reducing inflammation, strawberries can help calm redness and irritation associated with acne breakouts. Moreover, strawberries contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as salicylic acid, which is commonly found in skincare products for acne-prone skin. These AHAs help exfoliate the skin, unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, preventing acne breakouts and promoting clearer, smoother skin. So if you’re looking to help heal your skin naturally, eating strawberries are a great option! Obviously this isn’t going to do the whole job to healing your skin, it’s just one that can help the process. Plus, the high water content of strawberries helps keep the skin hydrated, which is essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier and preventing dryness and irritation that can worsen acne. I’m not saying that you can’t use skincare products to treat your acne, and sometimes those are one of the best options depending on the severity of your acne. I have only ever used topical treatments for my skin, and never have I been on Accutane (Isotretinoin), birth control, or any sort of oral application for my acne. I have used La Roche-Posay Effaclar Salicylic Acid Serum for my acne, which has helped my acne over time. Please make sure you are using it correctly though! I have learned that it is very important to make sure that you are using and applying your skincare products properly in order to treat your skin right.

To summarize, incorporating strawberries into your diet or skincare routine can be beneficial for reducing inflammation, preventing acne breakouts, and promoting clearer, healthier-looking skin. So basically, snacking on strawberries isn't just delicious – it's like giving your body a big hug of healthiness!

My Favorite Fruit Combo

This is something that I reach for in the mornings, or even the afternoon for a crisp snack. It’s quick and easy too! Sometimes I slice my strawberries and store them for a quicker prep.

I have always loved strawberries with a little sugar, but adding blackberries to this has recently become my new favorite. Like strawberries, blackberries are also packed with many essential nutrients to help prevent acne and inflammation. Sometimes I’ll even throw in other fruits like blueberries, pineapple, or raspberries depending on what I have in my fridge.
